Dear Friends and Family,

I would like to let you all know that I am well now and do not have
any trouble breathing. I still don´t know what was wrong with me but
I really don´t have to name it to be happy its gone.

Now for the new news. I am in the last weeks of training. It all
ends at Swearing-In on November 20th where I will become a Peace Corps
Volunteer. I cant´believe it. Well last week On November 4th
election day I went on my site visit. My site (where I will be living
and working for the next two years) is Israel. Yes everyone I am
moving to Israel....Chinandega (not the Middle East). Israel is
located in the Northwest most department of Nicaragua called
Chinandega. I am an hour from the capital city Chinandega and an hour
from the Honduras border. Chinandega is know as one of the hotter
departments of Nicaragua so I will be getting a nice dark tan in the
coming dry season. Israel is a small pueblo with about 130 families,
dirt roads, and a few pulparias (small stores that sell basic items in
someones home).

I live with a host family which consists of 4 people (much smaller
then the 19 person family I have now) and they seem really excited to
have me. I have my own room newly added to the house that has a
cement floor along with the living room. The rest of the house has
dirt floors. I have a latrine for a toilet and an outdoor shower to
bathe in. I am not going to lie I had a moment of shock but after 4
days of living there I´m getting use to the new way of life and can
live there for the 2 years. I will be working in 3 schools in the
surrounding area. One is 3 blocks from me and the other two are on
the Pan America Hwy 4kms and 9 kms away.

I am also a replacement volunteer so the people know what Peace Corps
is about and seem excited to have me. They also kept referring to a
volunteer named Jenny who worked in the school, had a teaching
background (like myself) and ended up getting married (not part of my
2 year plan). Will the Volunteer I am replacing left me a bunch of
his stuff which will really help me when it comes time for me to get
my own place. My host family is in the works trying to find me a
suitable house to rent. I was also gifted a cell phone and a new PO
Box.

Cell: 505-460-3193 ( I get free incoming calls and I heard Skype
(skype.com) is a cheap way to call. It only costs me to call out.)

wont go into Managua all that often)

Now I am back in San Juan learning more Spanish and beginning to say
my good byes. My host Mom was sad when I told here that I was leaving
a week from Wednesday. I guess the family really likes me. Its going
to be sad to have to leave them and make another move to a new pueblo
and a new family. But it is all a part of Peace Corps life.

In other news I was able to follow most of the election process this
presidential election and I was even able to vote. I found out on
November 5th that Obama won and will be the 44th president of the USA.
Before I get to excited I am waiting to see what changes he will
make. Supposedly he will be allocating more fund to the Peace Corps.
Here in Nicaragua there was a municipal election (mayor). Politics as
I said before are a big thing and this Sunday was election day. All
alcohol sales were suspended on Saturday and Sunday. Most business
were closed and schools were closed Thursday through Monday. The new
Alcalde (mayor) of San Juan de Oriente is from the Sandinista party (
Pink or red and black party if you go by colors and number 2 party if
you go by numbers). The aftermath of the election results in San Juan
was very tranquillo but in Managua there was a lot of political
parities violence towards each other. Its really shocking to see how
some Nicaraguans act on the News.

Other then that I have been getting to know more about San Juan. I
hiked to the Laguna again which was long hike down hill and an
excruciating hike up hill to get back. I was really gross and sweaty
and I still got cat call by a group of local men. Go figure. I
finished two pieces of potter. They will be fired tomorrow and ready
on Thursday. Very exciting. One had a chip in it but I did make it
all my self so I don't mind.

I hope all is well in the States and Peru. Keep writing me letters to
let me know how you all are. I do love receiving mail. I have a new
hobby which making my own stationary. I have to find something to do
with all my free time since once I get to my site school will be on
vacation for the next 3 months.

I taught my first lesson in the schools. It went well I learned a lot
for next time which is Thursday.

My potter pieces. Very nice!

My Comedor! My host Family has a comedor (restaurant) and they asked
to name it after me. they finally painted the wall. I am famous!
